What Wednesday is like

An early start, and the widest open water of the week.

Wednesday and Friday are the two early starts. The extra hour goes on the western end of the bay, the part a short trip never reaches, where the hills fall back and the water opens out.

Katica calls at Bijela to take guests aboard, runs the Herceg Novi coast, and turns for home with lunch on the stove. The whole return leg is the bay narrowing again, which is the view worth staying on deck for.

The afternoon is the island and then an hour in Perast: one street of stone houses on the water, with the two islands sitting in front of it.

Where Wednesday stops

Not a guidebook. Just what is there and how long there is to look at it.

A second place to board

Bijela

Wednesday and Friday call at Bijela on the way west to take guests aboard. If you are staying on that side of the bay, say so when you book.

The open half of the bay

The Herceg Novi side

West of the narrows the bay widens and the hills drop back. It is the only stretch that feels like open water, and it is where the swimming stops are.

Our Lady of the Rocks

The church stands on an island that nature never made. Boatmen built the ground under it by dropping stones beside a reef, season after season, until there was enough of it to build on. Forty minutes is the time it takes to walk round the outside, go in, and come back out to look down the bay before the boat leaves. Every route of the week stops here.

One street, on the water

Perast

A single row of stone houses along the waterfront, built when the town had a fleet of its own, and two islands sitting in front of it. An hour is enough to walk the length of it twice and still sit down. Wednesday and Friday stop here.
