What Monday is like

The short day, six hours from the quay and back.

Monday is the sailing to take if you have a morning and an afternoon rather than a whole day. It is the shortest route of the week by an hour and a half, and it gives up very little to be that.

The first half hour goes out between Sveti Marko and Ostrvo cvijeća, with Krašići along one shore and the Solila salt flats along the other. After that it is north, up the length of the bay, to the island. Lunch comes to the table while Katica passes Perast and Stoliv, which is the best stretch of coast on the route and the reason it is served then.

Kotor is the turning point. Agency guests step off there and the boat runs back down to Tivat, which takes the last of the afternoon.

Where Monday stops

Not a guidebook. Just what is there and how long there is to look at it.

The two islands off Tivat

Sveti Marko and Ostrvo cvijeća

Katica threads between the two of them on the way out, with Krašići on one side and the Solila salt flats on the other. It happens in the first half hour, so it is worth being on deck early.

Gospa od Škrpjela, off Perast

Our Lady of the Rocks

The church stands on an island that nature never made. Boatmen built the ground under it by dropping stones beside a reef, season after season, until there was enough of it to build on. Forty minutes is the time it takes to walk round the outside, go in, and come back out to look down the bay before the boat leaves. Every route of the week stops here.

Inside the walls

Kotor

The old town is packed into the corner where the bay ends and the mountain starts, and the walls run straight up the rock behind it. Tuesday gives you an hour and a half, long enough to get past the first square and into the lanes behind it. Monday, Thursday and Sunday come in as well, and agency guests leave the boat here.
